Rochford Town Team

Rochford Town Team aims to raise awareness of the unique historic character or Rochford and the surrounding district. A Heritage Lottery grant helped us create a Heritage Trail covering many historic places in this ancient market town. A further Heritage Lottery grant and support from Estuary Elim Church Group enabled us to develop the Rochford District Heritage Tapestry. The community project covers 1,000 years of history in the 14 parishes of the district. The 10 panels each measure over 2ft by 3ft. 90 adults and 80 children took just 20 months to complete this. Local artists and historians designed the scenes, which were then interpreted using embroidery, appliqué, knitting and felting. A 30-page A5 Heritage Tapestry booklet is now available for just £3.

Rochford is one of the oldest and most historic towns in Essex, with a long connection to kings, queens and other prominent people. Its history embraces smugglers, coaching inns, the Boleyn family and a rich Christian heritage, including the Peculiar People.

Guided tours around parts of Historic Rochford and 'The Old House' are organised periodically or can be pre-booked. In-costume guides add colour as you 'step back in time'.
